District Crime Record Bureau started functioning in 1990 with its state Head Quarters at Thiruvananthapuram called State Crime Records Bureau (S.C.R.B) with the national Head Quarters at New Delhi called National Crime Records Bureau (N.C.R.B). There are 18 Bureau in the state including Railways. It is a key functionary in the district for prevention and detection of crime.

Now the Kochi Police have introduced a criminals gallery at DCRB Kochi with available photograph and finger prints of the following categories of criminals for the purpose of easy identification:

Quotation team(hired Gundas)
Pickpockets
Accused in NDPS Act cases
Drug addicts
Known rowdies
Accused in robbery/ dacoity cases
Accused in vehicle theft cases
Boat pirates etc.
