City Traffic Police


Kochi City has the highest number of vehicles in the State of Kerala. Every month a record number of new vehicles are registered and enter the already congested roads of the city.

The traffic division of the Kochi City Police is one of the best in the country. Various innovative traffic control measures have been adopted by the Traffic Police for ensuring safe ride to the citizens on the road and the pedestrians.

City Traffic Police is solely responsible for the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations and investigation of traffic accidents and other offences. This is one of the most important Wings of the City Police.

City Traffic Police consists of two subdivisions i.e. Traffic Regulation (Kalamassery Wing,Thripunithura wing, Mattancherry Wing) and Traffic General.

One Asst.Commissioner of Police heads each subdivision.

What you should do in case of accident

  • On seeing any accident, please contact 1099 or 100 or 1090
  • It is not neccessary to reveal your identity.
  • Note down the registration number of vehicles involved.
  • Give assistance to the injured persons.
  • Take him to the hospital if necessary.
  • Inform the relatives of the injured if details are available.
  • Furnish more details to the Police.
  • On seeing any traffic violation note down the Registration number of vehicle/vehicles and report to Police with time place etc.

Your vehicle will be seized by Police

  • If you do not posses valid Driving License
  • If your vehicle is on the road without registration.
  • If you violate the condition in the permit.

You will be arrested while driving :

  • If you are found drunk and driving.
  • If you are driving recklessly and dangerously.
  • If you have taken somebody's vehicle without his/her permission.
